Would the US have female reporters or female soldiers flying combat missions if the US ever fought a foe that actually had a credible air force?

One thing I can say of Fluther is that one question can give birth to another. Off this question, I wondered, would the US be so comfortable sending out a female reporter like Martha Raddatz, or having female soldiers running combat missions if the foe had a comparable air force with near evenly skilled pilots? I think the only reason for the apparent confidence is because the US had not fought anyone in the Middle East, or elsewhere, that would be equal in armament and ability such as the Chinese, Russians, French, etc. Without doubt in the Middle East the US own the skies so it is not like there is much threat. Up against no real air force or ground defenses, can give one stones of steel. Against equal air power, would female pilots be grounded, or regulated to support runs?
