How do you feel about bow ties?

Asked by jordym84 (4752points) September 17th, 2013

I have a manager who always wears bow ties and I have a hard time taking him seriously (especially because they’re all sorts of wacky colors and patterns). I don’t really know why I feel that way about him and his bow ties as I’m usually not one to judge people based on what they wear, but there’s something about bow ties that just makes me want to giggle. Any thoughts on why this might be?

I like them with a tux. Hubby learned to tie his own.

When I lived on the mainland and had a job requiring ties, I wore bow ties exclusively. They’re fun.

Everywhere I worked there was always the bow tie guy. He was always soft spoken, thoughtful, and had an esoteric sense of humor. I want to be the bow tie guy, but some one always beats me to the punch.

On Bill Nye they are great. Anyone else? No

What’s not to like?

To my eyes, anachronistic and silly, except with a tux.

Still, every once on a while (very, very rarely) I’ll see a guy who pulls off the look. And there was certainly a time when they just looked right on some men and still do in these old photos.

Only if it has an inbuilt voice distorter or high powered laser cannon.

Blech.

With a tux is one thing, but with a jacket on the average guy is some goofy colors, awful, in my opinion.

I wear them sometimes. They make cool chokers, and it’s fun to tie them.

Usually disgust.

I like them as much as I like ties. I rarely wear either.

I had a history teacher in high school that was known for his bow ties. He never wore the same one twice in a school year. When I see a bow tie, I always briefly think of him.

In general, I don’t like them at all. They’re goofy-looking.

They’re cool, but look best on a guy who is bald.

I had a math teacher in high school who wore a bow tie every day and had matching socks (which could always be seen.)

We don’t wear ties at work anymore, but there is a guy that’s on an industry committee that wears a bow tie all the time. It works. But I don’t think it would work for me, doesn’t fit my face.

I find therm quite jaunty.

Pediatricians often wear them because babies can grab onto the long ones. I think they are kind of jaunty and go with a great smile.

I think they’re cool.

A bow tie is a sign of a either a) someone sophisticated or b) a Whovian. Both are great, so they’re great in my book.

As a guy I never liked bow ties on me, or a tie for that matter. I’m more of a jeans and t-shirt type of guy, and I just find little appeal in fancy/professional clothing such as suits or tuxedos. Others seem to like the way I look in them, but I don’t.
