Favorite music?

Asked by aspenfoltz (11points) November 23rd, 2013

I’m looking for some new music. I like alternative stuff, and rap, and folk and basically most things except for punk and screamo.

Random series of notes usually accompanied by a pleasant melody.

Yodeling. I can’t do it, but admire those who can.

And also Polka music with all the accordions and funny hats….

I don’t know. It changes. I recently had a huge hunger for Motown stuff. A few weeks ago it was tear-jerking Itlaian arias; O Babbino Mio Caro
, etc. (I know, I know, what a sap!). Sometimes I like to blow out the ports with Zeplin’s Black Dog or When the Levee Breaks, or Hendrix’s stratocaster. For a slid month last summer I played classical guitar music almost exclusively through the speaker system—Segovia, etc. Sometimes I want the crooners: Dean Martin, Sinatra or Torme. Lately it’s been Charlie Bird, Dizzy Gilespie, the rich full sound of Count Basie, and in the afternoon Thelonious Monk’s more contemplative pieces. Thanks to the net, I can have it all whenever I want it.

If you’re younger than mid-40s, you could discover the Beatles. I’m not talking about the Top-40 hits, which everyone knows, but the LPs packed with little-known, hidden gems. There are some clunkers on the albums, too, but the songs are mostly just more of the greatest music of the 20th century.

Hello,
Oasis, Stone roses, The jam, The clash, The kinks, The who, The smiths, The libertines, The style council, The maccabees, The verve, The arctic monkeys, miles kane, alt j, laura marling, the temples, wheres strutter, twisted wheel, deadbeat echoes, the courteeners, the last shadow puppets. These are some good British bands, some new – some old.
