Stupid question: Can anyone explain these contradictions (details inside)

Asked by Mimishu1995 (23628points) March 21st, 2014

I’m fond of mystery/crime stories. Yeah, those stories involving crime, murders and detectives. There are, of course, fights and blood in those stories. The darker the plot is the better. But in real life I’m not at all violent. Most consider me as gentle, jolly and tolerant. I’ve never used violence on anyone that’s the reason why I have to hide my “mobid” interest from many.

One of my friends really love romance, especially teen romance and romance comedy. Those stories only revolve around love and relationship between couples, always hilarious and romantic, and always end happily. No violence here. But she’s quite bad-tempered in real life. She gets angry easily and is very impatient. There’s nothing in her that is like the characters in the romance stories she read.

She once tried to talk me out of my interest, saying that it would affect my personality greatly and would turn me into a violent person. But so far our above-mentioned personalities haven’t changed.

Can anyone explain these contradictions?
