What to do and see in Shreveport, Louisiana in October?

Asked by Kardamom (33292points) September 23rd, 2015

My cousin and her husband are going to Shreveport, Louisiana just before Halloween, for a few days. One thing they want to do is gamble at one of the casinos, but they’ve never been to that city, nor to Louisiana and would like some suggestions as to what other interesting things to see and do while they are there.

They’re on a pretty tight budget, but they do enjoy eating out, so if you have any restaurant suggestions that are in the low to moderate range that would be great. They don’t care about ambiance, just good food (don’t worry, they’re not vegetarians).

Are there any museums, gardens or historic houses, or factories that produce any of the local items (you know, like the Dole pineapple factory in Oahu, or the sherry factory in Bristol England)?

How about historic sites, like battle grounds, statues, memorials or stuff like that?

They’re both into some of the nerdier stuff like Star Wars, faeries, wiccan stuff, crystals, and Harry Potter, so if there’s anything that has anything to do with that kind of stuff (stores, festivals, gatherings or anything else that I might not be thinking of).

They love Halloween, so if there’s any Halloween festivities, or graveyards, they’d love that.

Thanks in advance : )

How far is that from New Orleans?

@Adirondackwannabe I’m not sure, but it sounded like they didn’t have the time, or the money, to go to both places, so they picked Shreveport because it was closer to where they just moved. They’re originally from California, so none of us are familiar with Louisiana.

Have you been to this site?

Looks pretty comprehensive to me, although in the brief time I spent there I had trouble fitting it to a time-frame for special events, like (free) festivals.

Wow! I just watched the main feed for a few minutes and there tons of cool stuff to see. I had thought New Orleans, too, but screw that. Why waste the travel time!
