Here is what Bernie Sanders warned about in 2011 when discussing this problem and his opposition to the Panama Free Trade Agreement. Apparently, Clinton (and Obama) supported it.

Yes I heard the news about the report. It was all over NPR yesterday, though I doubt if anyone who hasn’t been comatose for several years was surprised by what the report says. @DoNotKnowMuch yes Clinton and Obama supported it. I don’t fault them for doing so. They’re multi millionaires, and as such it isn’t always that simple to differentiate the point at which your own self interest is opposed to the overall interest of the country as a whole. And this is why I think it’s important enough for me to back Sanders to the extent that I continue to throw money at his campaign. He is the only candidate to address the issue for what it is. And though he may well lose, it’s important to keep him out there until the bulk of us understand that what is going on is a matter of class struggle. If the supporters of Trump can ever be exposed to this revelation, things will shake up in a hurry.

^ I’m still contributing to the Sanders campaign quite regularly. And my wife has done some phonebanking.

Yes. My first thought was, “I wonder why it mostly excludes people in the USA, and what the people who are or aren’t in it, might show about who leaked it?”

Today, there was an article about exactly that. I tried to go dig it up but didn’t find it, and I need to work, but, yeah…

Yes, I have heard about it. I will wait some days for the dust to settle and more substantive information to emerge before spending too much time thinking about it.

At this early date, I can say I’m not too surprised that this behavior was going on.

@Zaku I was reading an article online that said that since investigative print journalism is so poorly supported in the States these days, only a few US papers were involved in the leak. That may be why.

I’m not sure how you could miss it. It’s all over the news. And I’m also not surprised by the news.

@janbb I don’t follow how you mean? I was thinking it may be an intentional limited leak to target only certain people, and the US people exposed, or not exposed, might point to who is involved in choosing what to leak. Just a thought. I have no idea what the truth is, and it could be a coincidence, random luck, or due to some reason that makes sense, but it seems odd that not very many people in the US were exposed. Another reason that comes to mind (I know I’m just wildly speculating) could just be that the leak only had access because most US people who do that are in a different department, or a different company.

@Zaku I don’t know enough about it to give you an intelligent answer but I thought maybe since only two papers in the US were working on it – and those more minor ones – not as much journalistic effort had been put into discovering US participants.

American’s don’t need these kinds of overseas shell corporations, there are more and better right here in the States.
