What do you think about the New Jersey school banning a trans girl from school until she dresses as a boy?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) April 7th, 2016

Her parents have tried to come up with every compromise they can think of, but the school keeps knocking them down. The young teen cannot go back to dressing as a boy as she will fall back into depression if she does. It outrageous discrimination.

This occurred in 2014, so I’m not entirely sure of the resolution. But it seems to me that he school does not have any legal stance on this whatsoever.

Fortunately, the school reversed its decision and let the girl attend school (Aug 2014).

@Hypocrisy_Central It is sad. But the transgender community do have to deal with quite a lof of discrination within many different circumstances.

It’s too bad. Tacking shame onto something that is beyond a person’s control should never be done, and the fact that she knows herself at this age is only good. She will have that many years, or decades, less grief over who she is. It’s bad enough when peers shun a person but to have the establishment set up such barriers is shameful. Get over it, people. Transgendered individuals exist, they aren’t rebellious or godless or evil.

@bunsofaluminum Well said, trans people are too often taken advantage of and very misunderstood frequently.
