What did the Bible say about exasperating one's children?

Did you have an argument with your mother?
The Bible says that you are in the wrong and that you will be punished:

If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.
—Deuteronomy 21:18–21

He that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

You’re probably thinking of Ephesians 6:4:

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger (some translations use “do not exaspirate”), but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

That is a pretty selective reading. Here is what precedes the passage that you cite:

Ephesians
6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
6:2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
6:3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

@LostInParadise The gist being that while children owe respect and obedience to their parents, the parents shouldn’t exercise that authority in a heavy-handed, exasperating, irritating way. Is that not the way you understand it?

The way I read it, what parents say is what should be obeyed, but they should show patience with children who are slow to respond.

@LostInParadise Haha what in blazes? The first quote I got from that site was Leviticus saying that if women fuck horses then they have to die. Lol, what is this, are these all real Bible quotes?

The site claims everything is authentic. I have not yet come upon misquote.

One feature that I like is that sometimes they will reference a general area where they have a number of quotes to back up their view and then show links to people who give opposing views.

It’s an interesting site for sure. But mein Gott some of those quotes are scary. Everything is about tyranny and death lol.

@Berserker , Try doing a search for things like genocide and slavery? For a holy book, the Bible certainly is rather bloody.
