Can you help me with broccoli buying etiquette?

When I get bananas I just pull off one or two since that is all I will eat before they go bad.

Never had a complaint.

I want broccoli for my goldfish. They love it. But they don’t eat much. I have been buying the big bundles for them even though they only eat 1% of it. And then I toss the rest. Broccoli is gross and I will not eat it.

So the question is what would be the response from the cashier if I just broke off a single sprout when buying it. I do it with bananas. But for some reason this feels different. Like cutting a carrot in half.
