Can you move a sink two feet without opening up the slab foundation?

The house has a slab foundation. The kitchen sink is in the kitchen island, and if I wanted to increase the width of the island, the sink would need to be moved one to two feet forward, depending how much I add to the island. Forward meaning if you stand in from of the sink you need to step backwards and pull the sink back towards you.
Can you just add plumbing pipe joints to do this just below the sink? Or, do you have to change the pipes beneath the cabinets?
