What is going on between the US and Afghanistan?

I know I can google, but I rather hear some jelly answers.
I saw someone from Afghanistan on TV, it might have been the president or a diplomat, talking about what seemed to be some sort of treaty we might be a part of, and he gave mention/respect to US gold star families and veterans who had served in Afghanistan.
What is going on, and what is your take on it?
