Fueling or refueling? Which word would you use?

I was filling my gas tank at the nearby BP this afternoon, and I noticed a warning sign:

“Do not use your cell phone while refueling”

Now, was I fueling my car, or refueling?

On the one hand, it was the first time today that I was adding gas, so I could make the case that I was fueling.

On the other hand, I have had to buy gas every week since I bought the vehicle, so except for the very first time, I have been refueling it.

So – did I fuel my car today, or did I refuel it?
