What's the furthest in outer space that humanities trash has messed up?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24473points) December 20th, 2021

Would it bother anyone if some space junk made it to Mars before humans?

Humor welcome.

I recall a Tesla, type BS, was launched some years ago.
Also, flags.

The biggest trash we’ve sent into space is probably our television signals.
Can you imagine aliens judging us by Gilligan’s Island?

^^ or…heaven forbid…The Gong Show. It has to be the lowest of the low.

Depends on what you call ‘trash’. I don’t consider exploration equipment or satellites trash, even ones that no longer work. Used diapers and old newspapers? I think none, but then, I haven’t been out there since my last incarnation.

Better those shows than something like “AS THE WORLD TURNS” or “THE EDGE OF NIGHT”.

There was at least one space vehicle that was sent to Mars in the early days that took pictures before crashing into the planet. That’s trash.
I’ve heard it said that TV signals don’t last too long (they degrade) while traveling away from Earth, so it seems that no alien would get the shows.

Our shit will boldly go where nothing has gone before – And fuck up the galaxy to infiniti.

The universe is mostly trash already being made up of rocks, dust and things on fire. It is already a giant dumpster fire out there. Our planet is an exception but we’re working on that.

Voyager 1 space probe is now in interstellar space, and not yet garbage. It still has about 5 or so more years before it dies, but will continue to travel, apparently forever.
