Should the Ukrainian people give up for now, and other countries take them in?

I can’t bear watching them being slaughtered. If 30 million people leave will it demonstrate to the Russian citizenry that the Ukraine’s do not want to be part or live under Russian rule? Every country in Europe and parts of America just take in people.
At some point the people are more important than the land. They are getting murdered, Russia is gaining control. Ugh, I don’t have the stomach for it.
Sorry that I’m such a wimp, how do you feel about it?
