Getting rid of sticker residue?

i just got a new spotlight, rechargeable and hand crank, 10 led!! so, i decided to take off the stickers so i could have just the aluminum. the sticker were paper backed, and ripped. now i have paper and glue all over th flashlight, and i cant get it off without hours of scratching for at least half an hour. any help?
