Interesting virtual worlds?

Asked by lov3xDrnk (239points) October 13th, 2010

Hi, i need a virtual world to play that’s not the usual habbo, meez, gaia kind of thing. Something fresh and very fun, preferably.

Second Life? I hear that’s less teenybopper. My computer is too old for it, alas.

Shame, Seek. I use SL and do the odd bit or RPing. But they have science and literature discussions… and all sorts. Universities use it for lectures even and Noam Chomsky just did a virtual talk with the Cornell University portal. http://business.treet.tv/shows/metanomics/episodes/noam-chomsky

I was a participant in Second Life for almost a year and enjoyed it. The reason for joining was work related, but soon got drawn to the social aspect of it. Unless it has changed, it isn’t the most user-friendly site, but once you get the hang of it, it really is amazing what people create there without the iron fist of the Linden government ruling.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube regarding SL. Take a look at a few and see if they are of interest.

I love Second Life, its a shame you can’t download it. @lov3xDrnk whats the issue that stops you? Is your hardware not good enough? If that’s the case it’s probably not good enough to run anything that’s even partway decent.

PS all you flutherites on SL will you share your SL names? I’m Lewis Luminos over there, would love to find new friends inworld.

I would say it depends on what you want to do in this virtual world. Are you looking for a more social, forum based experience? Or are looking for more game-oriented like an MMO?
