Why do embedded YouTube videos take so long to load?

Asked by buckyboy28 (4961points) October 22nd, 2010

Whenever I try to play a YouTube video that’s embedded into a webpage, it’s slow as death, but if I double click the video and watch it on YouTube, it’s nice and speedy. Why?

Probably something to do with the video getting relayed through more servers than usual.

Google might prioritise youtube itself over the embedded locations.
Running videos in a webbrowser is idiotic and severely decreases the efficiency of the entire process. The more things you put between the actual video and the user, the more things have to be loaded before the video can be shown.
