Health risks to the pregnant man?

Asked by GD_Kimble (2285points) April 2nd, 2008

This is about the pregnant man all over the news. Since the man in question is transgendered female to male, I’d assume he has (or is) undergone(going) pretty serious hormone therapy. Have there been, or WOULD there have been any research on the effects of that high a level of testosterone on a fetus? This is all so unprecedented.

According to the articles, he stopped taking testosterone several months ago, at which point his menstrual cycle returned. As long as he doesn’t start taking hormone supplements again, the baby should okay. If he started testosterone again, it would screw with the gender characteristics of the fetus.

It’s not unprecedented or unique. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center obstetrician Dr. Lisa Masterson told Good Morning America it has happened before. No real details, she was just explaining that it’s unusual but not unheard of.

I tired to see what I could find out about him, and it seems that there is a possibility it is a hoax. He is scheduled to appear on Oprah tomorrow to tell us if it is true or not. http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977299254

I think it is horrible to subject a child to jeopardy for attention. I think that “her” cause is unjust. I feel if this child survives it will be the subject of turmoil in its life. Life growing up in a household of this person is the most cruel form of this childs “jeopardy”.
