After watching a TV episode online, I now get occasional audio ads & broadcasts on my PC. How to find and remove?

Asked by beachwriter (361points) November 20th, 2010

So I watched a show I’d missed on a site called, I think, zshare.net and after the window was closed, I’m hearing audio commercials for stuff like AT&T and Orbit gum, and also what seems to be a news broadcast from Canada about someone named Dion Oxford and a medical treatment. The audio is not associated with any open tabs or windows, so I can’t close anything to shut it up. I had my security program do a scan but nothing was found. Advice, please!

Are you still online? Try turning off your wireless or unplugging your ethernet.

Have you tried turning it off and on again.

Seriously a restart will kill any buggy processes that haven’t terminated properly and if you are still getting the ads then you can be pretty sure that there some malware involved somewhere

Have you checked to see what flash files are loaded on your computer by these sites? Adobe

AT&T used to be a respectable and honorable company. After around 2000, it got taken over by fraudsters and scam artists, and became just like every other gimungous corporation…

You would be doing us all a service if you mentioned what show it was.
We do not want to make the same mistake.

worriedguy, it was “The Big C,” a drama from Showtime.

Since you’re asking this question I must assume you have no knowledge (not making insulting or any offense) of computers so I won’t say check your task manager and go under your processes tab and look for something strange. Instead I will suggest downloading Malwarebytes. Do a quick scan, if it doesn’t find anything then do a full scan.
