Do you think America should stop provoking North Korea and causing flash-points?

Asked by mammal (9431points) November 22nd, 2010

America is continuously stirring up trouble in that region, why is that? Why so immature? Why can’t they keep their big mouths shut? it is aggravating a nasty situation, people are dying.

Now America may have grave concerns over North Korean Nuclear facilities with regards to potential weapons development. America has ideological differences, but irresponsible rhetoric gets people killed.

It isn’t for American officials to make public claims that this Nuclear facility or that Nuclear facility is provocative, of course it isn’t provocative, that is outrageous. There is no moral framework known to mankind that could possibly justify such a wild statement and expect it to gain international consensus. It is pure moral relativism.

Exploiting modern technology isn’t inherently provocative. It may well be worrying…but deal with it QUIETLY!

Personally, even though im normally against war, and I was against the Iraq war, and most other wars you could mention, in this case, I think America (or someone) should get rid of crazy Kim as fast as possible. He reminds me of Cartman from southpark, only with more resources.

1— Crazy Kim has a team of servants that make sure all his grains of rice are the same size.
2— He claims to be god and probably thinks he is too
3— He is trying to get his hands on nukes.

Nothing says “im going to take you all with me when i die” more than a crazy dictator with nukes that thinks he is god.

But yea, this is not something that will be solved with talks, they should either do something or be quiet about it.

And let’s not forget the sinking of the SK ship on March 26
Or the abduction of Japanese girls from Japanese beaches who were then used to train NK spies to speak and act Japanese.
Or the 1987 destruction of a SK passenger plane by NK spies
Or the conterfeiting of US currency
Or the recent nuclear weapon test firing
Or….
Meanwhile the population starves. Sad.

Seriously @mammal, I can’t figure out why you would defend North Korea enough to ask a logically flawed question. Please educate. Answers other than: America is bad are lame.

Here’s another story about the incident @jlelandg posted above. The US cares because we have soldiers stationed in South Korea and we are committed to South Korea’s defense. It’s not just that we have to worry about North Korea being able to hit us in the states with their weapons, we have concerns about what is going on right at the border between North and South Korea.

Not to mention, when stuff happens over there, it has an affect on our market. In the story I linked, it mentions how worldwide stock prices went down because of it.

@jlelandg it isn’t logically flawed, it’s quite simple really, why does America insist on publicly humiliating North Korea?

Apparently Obama was outraged because North Korea attacked an island in South Korean territory, where troops were on exercise. America has to accept the status quo, what use is this endless and demeaning pressure applied by America, other than to increase tension. American foreign policy is reckless and arrogant, you rarely hear China make such commentary on the region, dictating terms to South Korea and they are a geographical neighbour.

America is endlessly war Mongering, it is tiresome.

@Seaofclouds but America has no business having soldiers there, if they are concerned pull their troops out. it is simple really.

@mammal We have been aligned with South Korea and committed to their defense for quite a while (like since the Korean War). North and South Korea have had issues for a long time. Saying, just pull the troops out is easier said than done, because that requires a lot of work considering the number of bases and the amount of equipment we have over there and it would mean turning out back on helping the South Koreans defend themselves against the North Koreans.

The pressure we place on North Korea is similar to the type we placed on China. Economic improvement will make your life and your country better. Put down the nukes fat little bastard Kim Jong-Il, don’t be a military dictator…

China is at personal war with how to deal with North Korea. They are like the dog you’ve owned for years that you really don’t like. Sure you don’t want anyone slapping that dog, but you really would prefer to give it up for adoption. Currently China sides with North Korea, but it’s anyones guess what would happen if it came to blows.
