Is it possible to just go to school in Canada?

Asked by jamzzy (885points) December 1st, 2010

I graduated High School with pretty bad grades, barely made it, had to repeat my freshman year. I was pretty immature on how I handled things during high school. Now that I have the option of going to school again, and I think I have found what I would like to do, is there a way I can just go to school in Canada? I’m not sure I would like to stay in the states, not because I don’t like it here (believe me I LOVE it here), but I could deff use a change of scenery, it could help me out a lot. I just wanted to know the process of doing so, and if anyone knows the difference in cost for college, or anything else I’m missing, it would be a big help.

You need to find out what the college/university enrolment criteria are. They vary from institution to institution. Depending on your grades you may have to start off at a college and then transfer to a university.

The first thing you need to look into is where you may want to move. Then check out the colleges and universities in that town/city. As far as I know most have the enrolment criteria on-line.

I know Americans who have gone to McGill University in Montreal and I believe it is cheaper than many US universities. However, it might be quite competitive to get in to.

There are plenty of universities and colleges in Canada. If you can get into one, they’ll let you stay in Canada with a student visa.

Here are the requirements for Canada.

But there really isn’t a need to leave the U.S. to change your scenery. There are plenty of places in the U.S. that bear little resemblance, culturally or geographically, to other parts of the U.S.

As for tuition, I paid about $4500 per year throughout my undergrad and $6100 for my MA.

you can take distance learning university courses in Athabasca University in Canada anywhere in the world… all you need for most classes is to be 18 years old… then after 10 classes you can transfer to another university closer to home… it works out to be $750 for a 3-credit class… more If your from other Provence’s or countries like U.S. and even more from other countries
