In Gmail, how do you access your Archive?

Asked by janbb (62880points) December 16th, 2010

I’ve archived some e-mails and chats and would like to view them, but cannot find the way to get into the Archives. Anyone know?

All archived mail goes into the All Mail section along with all sent and received mail. It’s simply a way to clean up the inbox.

What about chats?

If you search for ‘is:chat’ all of your chats will show up, even if they have been archived.

Or you can just use the chats button.

Tried that and it doesn’t bring up the chats I archived. It’s not the end of the world, but there’s some I wanted to see again.

Weird. They should be there. I just experimented a bit, and it doesn’t seem like archiving chats does anything, since they aren’t in the inbox to begin with. All the chats that I archived are still in the chat section.

No – they’re gone from there in mine.

It’s possible that the other person turned the chat to “Off the record”

@papayalily If it was already in my Chat History and then I moved it to Archive, could it disappear by them turning on “Off the Record”? Doesn’t seem likely.

@janbb Search the person’s name and maybe a word or two you remember came up.

Thanks.

@papayalily I jsut tried searching the person’s name and a word and several “hidden“chats did come up from somewhere in the cloud. Thanks a lot for that suggestion!
