When should I do ab workouts?

Asked by littlekori (676points) January 3rd, 2011

Is there a certain time of day that is best for ab workouts? I usually go running in the afternoon, so would it be best to do the workouts right after I jog? Or can I do them in the morning or right before I go to bed?

An hour after you eat something healthy is good. Other than that, time doesn’t matter.

No time is better than any other, although you should always do some warmup first. If you do it after jogging, you might be a little tapped out depending on the intensity. I throw abs in with lifting, which I usually warm up for with half an hour of cardio.

I would do them right after the jog because you are warmed up and to get it all over with.

If you must combine them, then do the ab workout first.
But if you combine them, you run the risk of negating the muscular development in your abs by the catabolic state that you may enter when you run. Depends on how long you are running. If the total work out is longer than one hour, I would do them on separate days.

When is a good time to hold your abs in?
All the time.
