Best songs to listen after a break up?

Asked by Lorenita (735points) January 5th, 2011

I just broke up with my boyfriend (3 yrs relationship) and need to hear sad and lame songs to cry all I have to, and then get over it.
Suggestions?

This is a Hindi song, but you will find the English translation in the description. Perfect song to listen to after a breakup. Recalls some good memories, but at the same time, helps you move on!!
Once you get the meaning and listen to it 3–4 times, you will be shouting “Alvida! Alvida!” (Goodbye! Goodbye!!) and feeling better! Do give it a try!

That last one is pretty powerful stuff.

A burn playlist might include:

The Scientist – Coldplay
The Boxer – Simon & Garfunkel
I am a Rock also Simon and Garfunkel
This Song is Over The Who
How Does it Feel Slade
Sometime Around Midnight Airborne Toxic Event
Also, anything by Bread works because David Gates seems to have been very unlucky in love.

When you are ready for the moving on music!

U+Ur Hand Pink
You Oughta Know Alanis Morrisette

… and the granddaddy of all movin on songs -
I Will Survive Cake (Yes I know Gloria Gaynor recorded the original, but I prefer this version.)

Some songs for later on in the mix:

Bree Sharp – Walk Away
Counting Crows – Colorblind
t.A.T.u. – Friend or Foe

And of course, when you’re done and over it:

Ben Folds Five – Song for the Dumped

(I like to think of the Ben Folds Five song as equal opportunity rage.)
