Is there a way to make myself feel awake?

Asked by xjustxxclaudiax (1963points) January 25th, 2011

I know coffee is one way…but are there others?...I didn’t get enough sleep last night and I want to take a 4 mile walk in about 20 minutes..but my eyes still feel a bit heavy and I was just wondering if there were other things that would help me stay awake a little longer?...or should I just go to bed and try again tomorrow?.....I really do need to get myself back in shape for the military, and I know that once I’m in boot camp, I’d have to work out regardless if I’m tired or not…I’m really trying to get myself in a system and not stop, no excuses what so ever….help?

Take a cool/cold shower or chug an energy drink.

The walk will actually help wake you up too. I exercise when I need to wake myself up.

get in the habit of taking your vitamins. Eat fruit like apples, they are a good source of energy.

Exercise will rev you up.

Thanks you guys, I’m off to get ready now….reading all your answers got me in a better mood. For other people who read this even after I’m gone..I’d still like to see what you guys think..Most likely this wont be the first day I’ll feel too tired to work out.

I found vitamins in the morning helped a lot. Using melatonin usually gave me good sleep at night too, and I woke up somewhat more rested.

Remember to eat something honey, can’t run an engine on an empty tank. Something that releases energy slowly like porridge (oatmeal) will keep you going till lunch, and there are lots of ways to perk it up even if you’re not a fan, like a handful of your favourite berries such as blueberries? strawberries? or sliced banana? a great source of potassium. Maybe a little honey drizzled over?
hugs honey xx

Caffeine pills are great too… don’t take with other stimulants, or for a long period of time

Slap yourself, get angry at empty space.

I go with the shower, or if you don’t have enough time you could just splash water on your face. That always seems to work for me!

fruit smoothies and exercise (but I always have coffee after as well :-/ )

try setting a really and i mean REALLY loud alarm tone . .. SOMETHING LIKE the killers or queen…. you get the idea.
then put your mobile/pager/alarm clock somewhere in your room where it won’t be in reach from the bed.
its what i do lol!

I’d go with the cold shower. What helps me is going to bed earlier and waking up around 8:00 in the morning.

As others posted ..I’d go with a shower then just start walking (the walk itself will wake you up).

I agree with a cool shower or splashing face with cold water – that helps me if I need to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed pretty quickly! The shower doesnt even need to be cold for me.
I’ll always have a nice hot(tish) cup of tea too (not in the shower though).
