What can make this excessive sweating stop?

Asked by kalrbing (287points) February 26th, 2011

I have sweat excessively since I was 10 years old. I am, now, 21. I wear deoderant every day, but I always get these huge sweat spot under my arms within 30 minutes to an hour of beginning my day. I usually do not smell bad (depending on the deoderant that I try), but the sweating always begins after a while.

I also sweat horribly when I do any typ of physical activity. I may do 5 minutes of excercise and I am drenched from head to waist. My scalp, face, under arms, stomach, and back are covered. Anytime I go out with my friends, my hair and clothes are dripping within 10 minutes. It is HORRIBLE.

I have tried Arrid spray and stick, Degree male and female spray and stick (also tried clinical), Certain Dri (was like water, did NOTHING), Mitchum gel and stick, secret clinical, and many others. I put the deoperant on and the pleasant smell always comes, but the sweat does as well. I have stains in ALL of my light colored shirts. This is an annoying and embarrasing problem. Does anyone have any pointers or ideas for a solution?

There is medical treatment for this, talk to your doctor. I watched a documentary a few months ago. I didn’t pay much attention to this segment but I know they helped the girl.

You have hyperhidrosis. Your doctor can evaluate and potentially prescribe a variety of treatments.

I heard getting Botox injected into your sweat glands in your armpit will help reduce sweating. They’ll even inject it under your butt cheeks if your bottom sweats a lot too…

Make sure you always wear cotton and not synthetic materials.

Yup, talk to your doctor. It’s a recognized disorder and there are treatments for hyperhidrosis. Your doctor will be able to prescribe a stronger prescription-strength antiperspirant than the kind available in drugstores. If that doesn’t work, there are also other treatments available, as others have mentioned.

Go to your derm and ask him/her. I had that problem a few years ago just under my armpits and she prescribed me Xerca AC. It works wonderfully. You put it on before bed every night and you’ll be dry the whole next day. The one down fall is that my pits were so dry it was sometimes itchy, but it is worth it! Hope I helped!

I would detoxify the body. If it were me I would look into an alkaline diet. The acid/alkaline balance of the average American is too acidic. I would also think about getting an occassional massage and colonic. I would avoid taking drugs for something like this at all costs!

@deaconblue Can you explain how an alkaline diet will change one’s physiology? What role do the kidney’s and lungs play in maintaining homeostasis? How does “alkaline” food alter pH? How will a massage/colonic affect the sweat glands?

I think alkaline diet is just the latest fad and I think It’s bunkum. Don’t start to worry about what you eat, unless it’s hot chilies!
