Has a modded response ever been reinstated following a successful appeal on Fluther?

Asked by RareDenver (13173points) March 31st, 2011 from iPhone

If so can you link to any examples and state why it was modded in the fist place and why it was successfully appealed?

I’m not sure, but it would be neat if it were done 12 Angry Men style. Only to be called “12 Angry Jellies”.

Yes – I’m too tired to link right now but on my thread about art and abused children, @dpworkin’s remark about majority opinions not making something right was modded and then restored on his appeal.

Yes. In fact now that we have general and social rules, sometimes comments are modded under general, and you can actually have the question changed to social if you are the OP, and have off topic comments unmodded.

I can’t think of one offhand but there have been several answers that have been restored after deliberation by the mods. Sometimes, it happens when a questions gets moved from General to Social or if a mod realizes that s/he removed the answer unnecessarily. Sometimes, a mod simply had a hard time understanding what was being said usually in the case of awkward wording and an answer is restored. Sometimes, if a response removed because of writing standards or a misuse of a word or something of that nature, Auggie can go in and edit the answer herself and restore it without the bad bits that violated the guidelines. However, not all mods have this power I believe only she and the other staff members have this power so this is a much rarer occurrence.

Interesting, I never thought about making an appeal…

I do have this one recent mod, I am scratching my head over, because it’s just saying (response moderated), and I do wonder why exactly. I don’t remember saying anything that would truly warrant that. I think the mod squad just got rid of it, to show they don’t show favoritism or weren’t taking sides, so it would be fair for the other person who was modded. That’s ok, I guess. Again, I don’t think the answer warranted that. So, I do wish it was a little more interactive, where people who were moderated could see what they wrote still, so they could learn from their mistakes. Or that they could find out which bits of the answer were in question. But that’s a whole nother ball game. The system works pretty well as is. I have learned not to drop the J-word, in the “wrong” context.

Yes. I saw a response that I thought was very apt, but someone took it as sarcastic and it soon disappeared. I appealed to the mods, explaining that there was another interpretation that was more consistent with that poster’s style and that the post had merit. Whoever handled my request must have seen my point because the post reappeared.

I have had a modded response reinstated twice.

Once was after I explained my response to Andrew, he put it back.

The second time was just this week when my response to a general question was modded off as “unhelpful”. I explained to Augie why I thought it provided the asker with information, and she put it back.

I appealed one of my questions and it was reinstated.

Several times, and recently, too. We’re only human, and we can make mistakes.

When you appeal, we take a look and talk it over. If we were wrong, we admit it and take steps to fix it. If not, we try to explain why it won’t be reinstated.

Don’t know why anyone would care enough to pursue.

This got modded several days ago in its earlier incarnation because of legitimate reasons. I rewrote it and Bob’s your uncle.

Yes. I’ve had a deleted response reinstated.

Yes. There was a very hot thread a while back when I was still a newbie Mod.. like, thread on fire! Flame-throwers and Molotov cocktails on fire! People were going at each other on this thread in real time and I was the only Mod around. Talk about stressful… phew!

So, I just dove in there and started pulling posts. The immediate goal was to put out the fire and to get things calmed down and reasonable. It took me like an hour or something, but I finally got things under control.

I had had to step in and post several ’Mod Says’ in the thread, so those participating knew I was the guilty party in terms of the moderating. I received a PM from a user regarding his post, which he felt was unfairly pulled. He presented his case, I saw that he was correct, and I reinstated the post with my apologies. I think that I am extremely fair and I feel like, no matter what, my sense of fairness can be appealed to.

I don’t hold on to that kind of thing, so I don’t remember what thread or user and can’t offer any concrete examples.
