useless fact for the day : the U2 song was named after One Tree Hill, (Maungakiekie) a volcanic crater in Auckland, New Zealand. The site of a Maori pa, or fortress, it has amazing views over the city (a classic make-out spot, I spent a lot of time there in my youth). The song was written for Bono’s NZ’er assistant, Greg Carroll, who died delivering Bono’s motorcycle. The tree was cut down by Maori protesters so now it’s No Tree Hill.
