The Wedding is over..Now what's going on with the weather?

Asked by AmWiser (14947points) April 29th, 2011

The weather is wrecking havoc in the southern plains. Are we missing any Flutherites? Have any Jelly’s out there been in the midst of the storm? Do you have any loved ones that’s been hit by this storm? Have any sirens or warnings gone off in your area? If so what did you do?
Yes! It’s been a happy day for some and a devastatingly sad day for others.

No, I don’t have any family in the southern plains. The sirens go off practically once a week where I live (Southern Illinois), so I’m used to them. Lambert Airport in St. Louis got hit hard about a week ago and is only a 45 minute drive away.

April 2011 is going to go down in the history books.

I have a stepbrother in North Carolina that was a mile away from the big tornado they had last week. He said everything looks fine until you get to the edge of the path and then you can’t go anywhere because of all the trees and the destruction.

I live in northern NJ. Yesterday, around noon time, there was a tornado warning in my area. It went from partly cloudy to a very dark gray in a matter of minutes. It was a very different cloud base than I am used to seeing. It was very low and fast moving. Luckily, it seemed that the first band of major storms were just north of us and the second was just south.
I have yet to hear of any actual tornadoes in the area, but wouldn’t be surprised if there was.

While watching CNN yesterday, they said over the past week, there has been 164 tornadoes in 14 states.

HAARP anyone?

I do know some people that were affected by the storms, including someone that took a direct hit. Luckily no one that I know was injured.
It has been a remarkable storm season, and as much as I enjoy this time of year normally.. I hope the tragedy stops here. I look forward to tornado season every year, as storm watching is a hobby of mine, but I never want to see anyone get hurt. It would be a perfect world if these monster storms would only hit in open plains when no one was around and there wasn’t a house in sight.

Everythings fine here in Kansas, of all places. Man…that was a helluva storm. ....

This week, the tornado sirens went off several days in a row here in Memphis. No one that I know was harmed or suffered from any damage. Here is a news report from one small Mississippi town southeast of us.

Are you sure that you’re still in Kansas? Have you checked under your house for any crushed witches? ;-)

Um…no. Not yet. I’ll do that over the weekend and get back to you! Actually, we got absolutely nothing but a little rain from the storms.

I live in Canada, but yesterday we had some really violent winds going on in Québec. Got home and saw that the electricity went out. One major road was blocked off due to huge roof parts from a building falling on the street. O_o Only lasted a few hours though.
