Are you a Dionysian type or an Apollonian type?

Asked by stardust (10562points) May 27th, 2011

If you had to choose, would you say your personality falls into the Dionysian or the Apollonian branch?
Please pick one or the other as opposed to aspects of both.

I guess I’d have to pick Apollo, since I am a male.

I can’t just pick one, because my personality combines traits from both of them.

@stardust I don’t fit one or the other either. I’m male but I’m a nature lover, art lover, love science, etc.

Since I’m only asked to pick one, I’ll say I’m Dionysus. But I want to pick out a combination of both:p.

Dyonysus.

My enneagram profile is the 7 ( Epicure/enthusiast) with the 8 wing ( leader )

My weakness is gluttony. lol

Absolutely!

I am extremely creative, a lover of beauty, art, nature, literature, good wine, good food, all things indulgent. I am also very gracious and love hostessing parties.

I can swing bewteen the polarities of peak health for my profile and also fall into hedonistic cycles. I have been in hedonist mode again, especially this last year. Trying to corral the wild horse of indulgence again. haha

I think I’m Apollo but I’m probably more like Dionysus. I’m a whole heap of contrariness

Apollo, mostly. In most of these types of character assessments, I usually rank more toward the masculine norm. (I’m female.)

Elements of each

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Mostly Apollonian but good bit Dionysian, maybe 70/30. I’m a female.

TexasDude's avatar

I definitely lean towards Dionysian, if you disregard my comically inflated sense of masculinity.

Apollonian mostly, though I’m female. There obviously are elements of both in all of us. The word that decided me was stoic. I am stoic.

_zen_'s avatar

Some of each. Could the OP explain what the purpose of this exercise is?

Hibernate's avatar

Neither. Oh and it’s impossible not to have at least a few characteristics from each.

Dionysian.

linguaphile's avatar

Both, like most everyone else, but Dionysian more than Apollonian. Often, it depends on the situation—
Here’s some Whitman: “Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself , I am large, I contain multitudes.”

flutherother's avatar

A bit of each and sometimes more one than the other. I would say I tend towards the Dionysian overall.

laineybug's avatar

I’m more Dionysian.

@Hibernate Cheers;) As you’ll see in the details, I asked those responding to choose only one for a reason
@zen Curiosity

Hmmm, I’m a wilderness instructor, wannabe hunter-gatherer, anti-civilization anarchist, and a foodie. I’ll go with Dionysian.
