I just got a Dell emc2 MA 01772, I’m damn sure its a raid. It has 15 300gb SCSI2 Hard Drives Yes, thats 4,500 gigabytes :D and some wierd connectors on the back. I’m wondering how to set this up and use it for storage, and what cables\cards\adapters i’ll need. Here are some pictures

I how you have or can obtain manuals for this device. I suspect you can download some relevant information.

MA 01772 is the State (Massachusetts) and the zip code (01772)... so those aren’t going to help a lot in tracking down the right documentation.

It looks like you probably have an older version of this (Dell AX Series SAN Array)...

I’m not 100% from the picture, but those are probably gigabit ethernet ports that you included in the photo of the back.

There should be a model number somewhere on there (it looks like it might be right below the word “Dell” on the front, but I can’t make it out), and maybe even a service tag that you can enter on the dell support website. If not, they also let you select by product line and model number. That should get you all the documentation that came with it originally as a PDF so you can go from there.

It’s not exactly set up for home use, but may be worth a bit since it still represents a good amount of storage. You could probably buy something more intended for your needs, unless you’re setting up a data center of some sort.

Where’d you get it?

@funkdaddy From the workplaceI work at, we have a lot of servers and suck, like, 5 dell rack mount ones, I got an hp proliant fom there that I have running tower model and my next goal is to get the mac OSX server they got XD It’s all stuff they cant use. I got this cause noone wanted to buy it.

They arent gigabit connectors, they look like USB ports but twice as big, they have 8 or 10 connectors based on the pins coming out the back.

It looks to be one of these Fibre Channe connectors. If anyone can find where I can order parts or more info that would be great. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibre_Channel

Maybe the HSSDC cables shown in this pdf

If it’s fiber channel, they aren’t cheap. You can probably find them cheaper elsewhere, but it looks like hundreds of dollars from Dell

Gmm maybe that isnt it because those look like fibre optics and this clearly has pins, it really looks like an HSSDC cable. I hope I can find one around locally to check before I buy some

@ratboy That’s exactly it! The question is what do I need to hook it up to a computer
