What do you think of the show "Intervention"?

Asked by nikipedia (28077points) July 25th, 2011

Even though the point is to help people, it seems pretty exploitative.

It is the best anti-drug campaign I’ve ever seen though.

I have seen it, and it does seem a bit exploitative to me. I can’t imagine why anyone would watch this show on a regular basis other than to attempt to feel better about their lives.

No kidding. Made me want to stop drinking coffee or taking advil.

I’ve watched it a few times, and because it’s quite formulaic in its approach, I’ve not seen it recently. I’ll tell you though, if anyone approaches me to say they’re doing a documentary on [fluther] addiction, I know a meeting in a motel room is in my future. Yes, the dependencies that the show exposes/exploits are quite horrific.

I’ve only seen one episode, the one with Allison. Never seen anything like it, hopefully never will again.

At first I laughed my ass off. Then I felt bad for her. Really bad.

Also, I’ve seen this famous 38 second clip. Best cry ever.

I haven’t watched it lately. It has gotten where all the shows are similar. I like the interventionists, though. I feel like if you can see the beginning and the end —the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes, you don’t need to see the middle.

It’s hard for me to watch but I’ve made myself do it several times to recognize how the addicts use and abuse the people around them who still care. lt’s neat when some of them seem to clean up but most of the time I feel sorriest for the people who love them who give up so much of their own lives and means to support family/friends who really don’t give a f__k.

I don’t think you can take anything as seriously as it needs to be taken when there are lights, cameras, and a crew following you around.

I watched it for a long time and then it began to depress me. It affected my sleep, even. I haven’t watched it since. Whats the point? I mean, I can easily get through Hoarders. I like that show when they say, “hi ! I collect things ! ” But to watch what is usually destroyed lives while munching on popcorn? No; I don’t need that.

It’s on now – so much drama. It’s nauseating. The addict is throwing her arms around, the family is chasing her “we want to save you.” I have to give the interventionist credit for dealing with that crap.
