I only knew one person that listened to him and Glenn Beck, but he was still capable of logic because he despised religion. He still believed in pretty much banning abortion and various right wing policies. But I’ve never known anyone that totally into his rhetoric.

I know several people who listen to him. They probably don’t all have the same view of him, but to generalize; I don’t think they buy the whole message, but they take what they feel is of value.
I believe that they also think of him as an entertainer and not just a political commentator.

My husband has a friend who takes his word as gospel.

Yes, my FIL takes him and his words as gospel.

My husband gets emails from him occasionally where he proclaims “Rush knows”. Ugh! My husband has kindly asked him to stop including him in the emails, but they still come. We think he’s determined to spread Rush’s words.

I know of people who do. I would not be close to anyone who did.

One of my favorite Rush rantings was when he said healthy people are causing most health care problems like rising premiums, because they exercise so much they hurt themselves and have to go to the hospital all the time…...

I can’t believe there is anyone who doesn’t know someone in their wider (wide, wide, wide) circle (perhaps the periphery) of their life who doesn’t listen to Rush (if they live in the US anyway) and ascribe to his worldview.

But I’m sure he will be next to go under the “Great American Free Speech” cleanout…after Glenn Beck. I don’t agree with him…but he has the right to say what he wants. I don’t agree with a lot of what the pundits say (right or left) but I still believe in their right to say what they want (even if it is a lot of overblown rhetoric.)

My dad did. He has been gone eight years and I still cringe when I think of how far to the right my dad became after he retired. He has always been fairly conservative but he went way over the top in his later years.

I listen to Rush. I don’t always agree, but most of the time he’s spot on.

Rush is an enetertainer and he is quite good at it. I listen to him when I can but not religiously. His points are valid but inevitably overstated. That’s what makes him entertaining. Few if any take the points as gospel but if you quote him, you’re painted as a clone. That is afterall what the left does best.

May favorite line from Rush goes something like this. If god said he was going to destroy the world tomorrow, the headlines would read, “God Destroys World, Women and Minorities Hardest Hit”.

I do know people like that. Oddly enough, we don’t see eye-to-eye on political issues.

Who is Rush Limbaugh!?

@DarlingRhadamanthus If cancelling someone’s TV show is impinging on someone’s free speech, every American with no national TV show is a victim of free speech suppression.

Beck is free to say what he wants. Nobody is obligated to give him air time.

I know several people who believe everything RL says. It is difficult to argue with them, since their facts are all pulled from someone elses ass.

SpatzieLover's avatar

I forgot to add that last year my FIL bought my husband a subscription to Rush’s website. My husband was baffled by the gift since he’d already told his dad he does not follow RL at all, nor did he want to.

He emailed this past b-day, asking if he wanted him to renew or not. Apparently the FIL only hears what RL has to say, and no one else registers. :/

My uncle, who happens to be a cop, and who also happens to be one of the best cops I’ve ever known.

Haters gonna hate.

Personally, no. But online I have met many. Sodahaead.com is a competing Social Q&A site with lots of Rush ditto-heads.

Yes. My mother’s boyfriend listens to him all the time. I’m not sure if he agrees with everything he says, but I think they’re along the same lines of thinking.
He and I butt heads a lot on most issues that come up in conversation, and I’m not very familiar with Rush’s specific viewpoints, but my mother’s boyfriend does tend to know his stuff. He reads a lot, and while I’m not sure that what he’s reading is always correct, he can at least back his conclusions with research instead of just “Rush said so”, so at least there’s that! Though sometimes I think that even if his facts are true, his conclusions don’t fit them as well as he thinks.
