Why do anger and similar emotions fuel productivity within myself?

And does that happen for you?

Depends on why I am angry (or whatever). If someone has said “you can’t do, have, be that”. It will make me want to prove them wrong. That has happened with positive results many times. In other circumstances, anger or whatever may lead to inertia. While I have a big cry or whatever. I think it can lead to productivity though and I have experienced that. Grief too or despair, once you have got passed the initial paralysis of such things, can lead people to make big changes in their lives.

Because it forces you to live in your physical present instead of in your head. You drown the voices in your head by staying busy. So instead of sitting around worried or feeling guilty or trying to figure things out in your mind, you live in the present by being present instead of letting the anger cripple you. You goal becomes to only concentrate on what you want to be focused on instead of what is making you angry.

Lucky you, on the contrary, such emotions have led me to making the worst decisions of my life. In my effort to channel anger and the likes in a constructive direction, it all exploded in my face later on. Still paying the price for it!

@Pandora That must be involuntary because I definitely tend to do the opposite. This is very weird… I just blew through a school assignment I’d been dreading and had no problems understanding things which I couldn’t understand when I wasn’t agitated!

@Facade You are focusing all the energy from you anger on what you need to do. With any increase in feelings you get an adrenaline rush. You have to place that energy somewhere or your anger will be diverted somewhere else. Its like getting a caffiene high and suddenly you can focus better. You probably don’t want your anger to go toward doing something distructive so you concentrate your efforts on things that will keep your mind off of it. Did you really want to sit and dwell on what is making you angry? Is it going to change anything to solely concentrate on your anger?
Intuitively you probably realize you need to cool down before you can face your anger.

I agree with @Pandora. I get super focused when I’m angry and options for resolution start popping to mind.

Noradrenalin gives you a boost of energy.
