What does timed dry mean on a dryer? Does it save energy?

I may be wrong, but I believe it’s a timer for drying your clothes.

It drys for a specific time, not by moisture content some materials should not be completely dried by heat, so you have the option to dry as long or short as you want.

If you have the option to use a drying cycle with an automatic sensor, it will save electricity because it will automatically stop when the clothes are dry, versus you choosing a 40 minute dry time (or whatever) when only 30 minutes are needed.
