My wii keeps saying error can't read disc?

Asked by Preethiop (114points) August 17th, 2011

My wii keeps saying error can’t read disc, I have done everything that the manual says but still won’t work. It does this on every disc. Please can you tell me, what to do?

Thanks!

This may sound a bit crazy and silly so I am sorry in advance. Is the disc facing the correct way? Try flipping it if you haven’t already. It could be that your wii is broken as well since it does that with all of the discs. My brother had a sensor knocked loose on his and had that same issue. It was the console (luckily under warranty)

Have you tried using a cd/dvd cleaning disc to get any dust and gunk out of your drive?

Is you Wii still covered by a warranty?

Do you have the skills to replace the internal DVD drive yourself?

That same thing happened to me. Call the support telephone number. Its 1–800-255–3700 they will tell you everything you need to know. DO NOT OPEN IT IF IT’S STILL UNDER WARRANTY They fixed my problem and added another year to my warranty.

Ours did the same thing and was past the warranty. If you don’t know when the warranty expires, visit the Nintendo Wii support site and click on Troubleshooting and Repairs. If all else fails, you can enter your Wii’s serial number and find out if it is still under warranty. Either way, you can send your Wii to Nintendo for repairs and then have it shipped back to you. It cost us about $70 if I remember correctly, but it was easy to print the shipping label and mail the package off. We got the game console back much quicker than I thought we would; probably within a couple of weeks and it has worked fine since.

My console started doing the same thing at about 3 years old. It progressed from sometimes, to frequently, to always refusing to read disks. Then it began making deathly grinding sounds and spinning so furiously loud that the sound was audible from another room.

It was cheaper for me to buy a new console than to have it repaired and the old one still works great for streaming Netflix and playing downloaded games. It resides in the bedroom now.
