Has anyone from Canada ever moved to the U.S., and what did they have to do?

(Nikki, my partner, wants to know).

How hard was it? How long did it take to do the paper work?

Our family moved here from Ottawa in 1955, when I was 8. IIRC, my father became a naturalized citizen in 1958.

Perhaps some of what I do remember might be generally informative.
I think my dad had a job waiting for him here, and my mother was born in the US.
