General Question

I've accidentally blocked YouTube. Have gone to Adblock and unchecked all YouTube listings, but YouTube is still black?

Asked by tiredoftherunaround (13points) September 29th, 2011

I know it is Adblock that is the problem as that’s the name that pops up when the block button shows up on a video.

Any suggestions, please? I’ve also downloaded a program (among several other ones that I also use)to clean up files, malware, etc. So, it’s not caused by an overloaded or clogged system.

if you are running xp or vista go to the contorl panel find “add/remove programs”. find “adblock” and uninstall it.
To fix you adware problem then download spybot and run it.

p.s. spybot will clear all adware and malware…so you can uninstall the many other programs you have installed. :)

thanx,
I’m using Windows 7.
I not longer use spybot as it’s not as good as it used to be when it first came out.

I use other adware, spyware programs, with the last one being the free Advanced Systems Care 4, which I read about on another thread on this forum with someone having the same problem. Found a tremendous amount of spyware and one trojan that my other programs have missed. I’ve ran the registry cleaners such a CC, and Free Registry Repair, have Avira, Threatfire, Windows Defender, etc. for active protection.
I just downloaded the newest version of Adblock prior to my writing my question here.
Actually, Adblock isn’t around any more. It’s now Adblock Plus.

Wouldn’t downloading the newest version be the same as removing and downloading??

I’ve visited the plugins for Firefox and have downloaded all that I saw.
OK. Will delete Adblock Plus and reinstall.

tiredoftherunaround's avatar

Well, just checked the add/remove part, and Adblock isn’t listed. Anywhere….

tiredoftherunaround's avatar

Never mind….......you have to go through Tools, and extensions…........to delete…..

escapadesofapoet's avatar

it might be under another name in the add/remove. Maybe the developers name. OR a toolbar name…

Are you using Firefox?

If so, there’s also a Disable key for Adblock Plus.

tiredoftherunaround's avatar

Yeah, the lates version 7…........I have to go through Tools, and then extenstions to delete…...... i was waiting to see what your response was before I tried this.
Another strange thing is that I downloaded 7.01 and it extracts the files and then does nothing with it. Done it twice.

OK. here goes…........I’m going to tools….. will be a while.

Well, crap! Didn’t do a thing.
removed it, restarted FF, installed new version, restarted FF.
Still no youtube. Just a black screen.

Youtube uses more than one domain, maybe you have some of the helper domains still blocked (e.g. ytimg or gstatic), you can check which urls Adblock actually blocks by “Open Blockable Items” any blocked url will show up in read.

Also, if the pages are displaying, but the videos aren’t maybe you have Adobe Flash disabled, there are a few addons that can do that or you can disable the plugin for Flash directly.

tiredoftherunaround's avatar

Will do.
I just downloaded a new Adobe Flash before I started with the question, so I don’t think that’s the problem..
What is interesting, though, is that when no Adblock at all, the video is working just fine. So….....it’s an Adblock issue.

tiredoftherunaround's avatar

OK. back to the same problem. When I reinstall Adblock with a new download, the same problem is present.

What could this be??

escapadesofapoet's avatar

you could get another program. AVG it pretty good…

tiredoftherunaround's avatar

I’m not having any problems with viruses, or adware.
AVG isn’t the same thing as Adblock. I quit using AVG about 4 years ago because the reviews weren’t as good as when it first came out.

Yes, I have Chrome…......and it works fine on it, but I don’t like Google and have disabled its toolbar as I think its products snoops too much. And, YouTube works just fine on an older computer with FF, but the Adblock is an older version which isn’t available. Adblock Plus 1.3.9.
I just disabled the version I have on this computer and YouTube works just fine again.

At any rate, thanks for all the help.

escapadesofapoet's avatar

try searching for the older verison to install that. Sometimes you can find old versions online hosted elsewhere.

tiredoftherunaround's avatar

Did that. It’s no longer available. Only the version I have now.

Thanx. Gotta go.
