Which digital camera should I buy? (Four choices)

Asked by SassyPink (284points) October 2nd, 2011

The Panasonic Lumix , the Samsung, or one of the Nikon brands?

I’m looking to buy another decent camera online since my old Kodak camera stop working (Not to mention that I’m going to need it for one of the classes that requires me to watch a live musical concert as part of the assignment). I’m particularly interested in getting a new camera with an LCD touch screen feature. So I narrow my choices down to these four: the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3, Samsung EC-ST95 ,Nikon Coolpix S60, and Nikon Coolpix S80 . I heard that both the Nikon and the Samsung brands are usually better because of their many qualities and features. But I also heard that the Panasonic brands are just as good.

More Lumix
More Samsung
More Coolpix s60
More Coolpix s80 1 (ad)
Coolpix s80 2 (ad)
Coolpix s80 3

After reviewing some of the information online, I personally like all the features that are included in each of these cameras. They all seem very interesting choices for me so far. However, one little concern that I may have with these two Coolpix brands (same goes for the Samsung) is that there are almost no physical controls in the back. I’m not too sure if I will get use to the idea that the back of the camera is all LCD (as opposed to the Lumix). However, I do like the idea of the face-detecting feature and the ability to write messages on the camera with a stylus from these Coolpix brands.

The one thing that I do like about the Lumix is that it still looks like one of those traditional digital cameras, except that it includes a touch screen of course. But I’m not too sure if it includes the write-on features like the two coolpix brands or various of other features that can be found in the EC.

I have a Lumix and it is way way better than my last camera, which was a Coolpix.

Here are a couple of sites I like for detailed, knowledgeable camera reviews. Highly recommended reading for anyone contemplating a new camera purchase.

I am partial towards Nikon cameras. That is because I own 2 Nikon digital SLR’s (D70s & D300), a Nikon digital point and shoot (Coolpix S210). I also owned another Nikon digital point and shoot as well, prior to the one I own now which I gave to my mother, because she didn’t have a digital camera at all . My wife also has a, Nikon Coolpix S210, both my brothers have Nikons as well. I also own a Nikon FM-10, film SLR, which I still like to use from time to time. Based on what I said above…wait for it…I recommend the Nikon all the way. Either model of Nikon you are considering will be a good choice.

I really like the Nikon Coolpix S80 because of the 5x wide-angle optical Zoom-Nikkor. The video features are good and we like the fact that we can create our video in stereo and use the HDMI output.

We capture a lot of live music performances with it and the motion detection automatically detects moving subjects and adjusts shutter speed. I recommend Nikon.

I have a Nikon Coolpix and the only picture taken with it was a little dark and blurry. I’m not much into digital cameras. I like my old 35MM photos.

Nikon models are very good. Have you considered Canon IXUS series?
