I need help with my Google Bookmarks?

Asked by Aethelflaed (13752points) October 27th, 2011

Ok, so, I had all my bookmarks in Google Bookmarks and using Firefox, which worked really well, and they would show up in Google searches and everything. But then Google decided to not update Google Toolbar for Firefox anymore, and I’m having trouble finding a suitable add-on for Google Bookmarks. I need one that will let me add new bookmarks without opening a whole new Bookmarks tab, add labels/folders to that bookmark while adding it while also suggesting pre-existing labels so I don’t end up creating 5 different version of what is essentially the same label (eg French Revolution and French Rev and French Rev. and FR), and let me do some amount of editing without having to open up a whole new Bookmarks tab. Also, bonus if it will let me have labels within labels (like French Revolution within a larger History folder).

Thanks!

To late to edit. Or, a bookmarking system that will be integrated into Google searches (which Firefox bookmarks aren’t) that isn’t Google.

Evernote. I’ve been using Evernote for more than a year now, and I simply love it. It’s free, it’s fast, it’s (mostly) intuitive, supports free-form tagging and multiple folders (which I haven’t even used – I just use more tags).

I use Xmarks for all of my bookmark needs. I use the Chrome extension, but my wife uses the Firefox add-on.

@CWOTUS Does Evernote do bookmarks? I thought they were more clippings.

@tom_g I’ll try that, thanks!

I use Evernote to clip URLs more than pages, @Aethelflaed. And I also frequently rename them in a way that makes sense to me, so that a “clever” site or page name won’t hide the reason that I tagged it in the first place. Plus with the way tags can later be searched for intersections: search on tags “humor”, “YouTube” and “music” for instance to find the tags that share all of those attributes, makes it extra useful to me.
