what kind of email are we talking about?....POP3, Exchange, IMAP, etc…

also what file type is your backed up email? .pst? or did you drag the folders from outlook to another folder on your computer?

ok, I’m assuming you are using Windows XP. First you’ll need to show the hidden files…go to my computer..click on Tools-Folder Options. Select the View Tab and select the option for “Show Hidden Files”.

Navigate to the folder labeled “Documents and Settings” in your backup folder. Now open the following folders in this order…

your username folder
local settings
application data
microsoft
outlook

Here you’ll find the .pst file which contains your emails….as long as it got backed up. If it is not there, you’re out of luck.

Open Outlook, click on File-Import and Export. The first question’s answer is “Import from another program or file”. Hit next and look for “personal file folder (pst)”, hit next. On the next screen, browse to the filename of the pst we found earlier. If there is more than one, you can repeat these steps to get everything. Just follow the wizard the rest of the way through and you should be good to go…let me know if you get stuck.
