Why is the US giving aid to China? Aren't they loaning us money? Does this sound insane to you?

Asked by philosopher (9065points) December 22nd, 2011

Do you see how stupid this is?
This is our worthless incompetent Congress at work.
They blame hard working Middle class people for the debt and greed of the one percent. They aid other nations, illegal aliens and Governments that hate us. They would increase the Taxes of most Americans to make a Political point. I think 99% of them are greedy, self serving, immoral pigs.
Why does our Government pay for the college education of students from other nations? While American’s have to take out loans for college and go into deep debt?
Do you ever think about this stuff? Isn’t this why our national debt is actually growing?

We pay for their college? You have so much hatred in your explanations. I know there are programs where foreign students can come here and study but it requires a lot of money on their part. The psychology behind that is, they will bring democratic education back to their land and therefore become trade partners in the future. It’s all part of globalization movement. Being American and part of America isn’t what it used to be. It’s no longer us versus them. It’s how can we get them to be like us. It’s part of having a stronger and educated world. True the U.S. Government owes services to its people. But haven’t you heard? 41 Cents of the American dollar actually belongs to China. I’d like to see the source you are talking about.

Here is one example.

China is also manipulating their currency. They are an immoral bully. I feel No shame in having little respect for them. They abuse their own.

@philosopher There are tons of things going on behind the scenes. What looks like a “willingness” of 4 million for them to clean their energy development could not be that at all. It could be that China is squeezing our hand shaking it, telling us “this is how you’re going to satisfy me and pay me now.” I agree there may be tons of manipulating currency and their copyright law is near non existent. They are nation working toward the goal of being the number one economic super power. That is there nations goal! Does the U.S. have a national goal? I’ve heard of none at the moment.

Politics are insane in general. I find it no more insane than electing a leader who has no real power to run anything anyway.
What is happening now is just a trade.

whitetigress's avatar

@philosopher Think of it as paying your Capital One card, the minimum amount, just to satisfy the collector.

Honestly I never buy what I can not afford. I am not in debt. My husband would kill me if I behaved that way. I do without many things I want.
I always stand up to bullies. No one intimates me but insane people or criminals with weapons.
In China they say yes but mean No. We should say NO and refuse to do what they want.
We should stand up for Americans. China was once in debt to the US. Bully’s do not respect a Sheep like mentality.

whitetigress's avatar

@philosopher There’s a reason you’re not in politics. I don’t mean any offense. But politics and negotiating go hand in hand. You seem to have this blue coat vs red coat mentality. I love it! BUT! At the moment, China owns our ass, fair and square. It’s not a bully versus little boy kind of thing. At the moment America is a teenager, learning and taking allowances from mom.

@whitetigress
I remember a time when China was in debt to the US. We helped them than too.
I am an Independent I equally dislike all extremist.
Their products were junk when I was child and they still are.
I have had many Chinese friends and friends from all over the world. I worked in Manhattan for many years.
My current neighbor is from China. She is a Professor at our local college despite that she barely speaks any of English. I find this sicking. It is foolish that we tolerate this.
We also tolerate their breaking into our Pentagon and Military files. They don’t use Windows but our Pentagon and Military still are. This was told to me by a Software Engineer.
I also know people who have visited China and I have heard how they think and how they mistreat their own. They are bullies.
When you act like a sheep everyone will continue to take advantage of you.
When people try to force me against my will. I say No and what part of No don’t you understand.
In addition I have family in Politics and I know most of what is actually going on. Despite all the BS we here.
No offense but I am well informed about the facts and not naive.

Let’s see, they’ve been hacking into the Chamber of Commerce for over a year, hacked and stole plans for a stealth fighter jet, Hacked into Yahoo and Google to find human rights activists and watch them/arrest them, stole plans from Ford for a hybrid engine… And apparently these as well as others are apparently the reason that accounts for roughly $250 billion our debt…

whitetigress's avatar

@King_Pariah Good info. But @philosopher You are starting to sound like a racist! Yikes be careful. Is that professor who is teaching at the local college an American? Regardless she’s obviously well qualified over an American too apparently. Why is it “sicking”? How do you propose we fight back because they’ve hacked us? War? I don’t act like a sheep. So you’re saying, although we owe them x amount of money they are just bullies and we shouldn’t be paying them back? Ok I respect your opinion. It’s obviously not going to change and neither is my perspective.

When it comes to the hacking I think that the best thing we can probably do is do as the Chinese do (*gasp!), hold hacker and programmer tournaments and get the best to start countering the efforts of the Chinese. And yeah @philosopher you are sounding a bit racist here, so what if she’s Chinese and a professor at a local college, maybe she’s teaching students how to speak one of the dialects of China. In high school I had a Argentinian teacher who spoke terrible English, he was teaching us Spanish and was one of the best Spanish instructors I ever had (he also was offered to be on the Argentinian Olympic bike team but he turned that down, but that’s a different story).

@King_Pariah
She teachers Programing.
I treat everyone exactly how they treat me regardless of their race.
I would not pay for classes taught by someone who could not speak English. This is wrong and makes things more difficult for students. Staten Island college is not as good as it was. The President wanted to build Dormitories on land that belongs to special needs people. We did not allow it.
Would China allow American’s to teach in their colleges? If they can not communicate in Chinese?
According to someone I know who is an experienced Software Engineer China does not use Windows. Windows Programs are vulnerable to their Hackers.
I am aware of many companies they have broken into. Last year Sixty Minutes had a show on this.
Why did the US forgive China’s debt?
It is time Congress starts looking out for the best interest of legal hard working American citizens. If that is racist to dam bad.
I reiterate that I have friends of many colors and faiths. I grew up this way. Most of my friends who earned their citizenship think everyone must earn theirs. When you are educated in NYC Public schools and work in Manhattan you actually meet people from all over the world. Some are wonderful people and some bring their problems here.

@philosopher I’m a current student. I’m pretty sure the professor wouldn’t be asked to be on staff if she didn’t have an adequate way of communicating and teaching materials as needed for her position in accordance to the state of where you reside. Sure there are a couple bad hires here and there. But have you ever taken college math courses?! It’s so rare to get a non accented straight “American” English speakers, in a lot of the science courses for that matter. And have you ever even taken up a full blown conversation with this professor? I’m pretty sure you’ll find out that she’s quite articulate. Especially if she’s teaching a dialect from “China”, I can speak as a student, it would get me to learn the material better because I’d be constantly honed in and trying to translate whatever it is she is trying to convey. And if I weren’t able to understand, I would simply drop the class. It’s an easy mature decision to take. Nobody is forcing the students to take her class. I don’t like China’s ethics as a nation. But I’m pretty damn sure there are some really good individuals with good intentions. Just like how we are perceiving China as a whole, it’s not ALL of them who are bad, or seem bad, it’s the leaders, don’t get it twisted. It’s most likely how the other nations think of us, they don’t see the U.S.A. as individuals for the most part. Can you guess how they perceive us? I’ll shoot the answer because I’ve been on forums asking them what they think of us and I got a lot of “Arrogant, imperialists” Surprised? I’m not. I guess you’ll learn @philosopher You are what you hate. And now that China is playing hard ball, they are saying “No” to us now, and “what part of no don’t you understand?” The cards at the moment are in their favor. Just like when we were the lone super power we had the cards in our favor. We’ve seen this fluctuate from nation to nation throughout history, I don’t know why it’s so surprising to some.

There are good and bad people of every creed and religion.
When my friend was in China touring a Translator saved his life. I would say he was an outstanding human being. My friend was manging a band. The stress of dealing with all the Government Regulations made him ill.
The Translator and him thought everything was worked out on the phone weeks in advance. The Government interfered and they almost had to cancel the Concert.
My friend was relatively young and suffered a Heart Attack.
I do not blame the people they are victims. We are too.
I do however have a problem with people that come here with attitudes.
I have worked with Immigrants from many places and most work hard. I became friends with many.
I dislike people that refuse to learn English. They simply should not be here. When people are uneducated I can tolerate that learning English is difficult. Professors should know English. My neighbor does not speak much English. I could not learn anything from her. I can not commuciate with her.

whitetigress's avatar

@philosopher To say you cannot communicate with her indicates the fact that YOU have given up on the situation. But the black and white science behind, and the truth is, you can make an effort to understand. I’m not saying you should or wont, but you could. Immigrants are not the only people in the U.S. with attitudes! I know plenty of Americans who have attitudes. Why would you dislike someone for refusing to speak English? It doesn’t make sense. Spoken language is just one form of communication. I’m going to conclude this by saying I respect what you do not like, but I feel as if you have all but given up on your views to like the professor because she can’t speak English. And I cannot carry on an intellectual conversation any longer. It’s strange because your user name suggests you tinkle around all possibilities before coming to conclusions, after all that’s a philosophers job.

mattbrowne's avatar

Cool down, please. Using such strong language is not a sign of moral behavior.

And don’t forget that the US seeks to attract talent. The Chinese government is not pleased when their best people become professors at Harvard. Attracting talent increases the wealth of America.
