Is there a decent realistic driving simulator available online?

Asked by noodle_poodle (1614points) January 29th, 2012

I am learning to drive and just need to get into the right frame of mind. Is anyone knows of one that’s available free or where I can a least trial it before I buy it that would be neat.

I don’t think so….unless it’s a video game. best practice for beginners is to go to an empty parking lot and get behind the wheel WITH AN ADULT PRESENT

Ya I know and I getting lessons. But its expensive so anything that I can do in the evenings would be great.

Unfortunately, I don’t think anybody’s made one with that much attention to the real-world values.

While it is possible since they do have flight simulators that use real aircraft controls wired into the computer that are certified by the CAA (UK) and FAA (US) to be realistic and are identical to operating a real aircraft under real world conditions, they cost millions of buckazoids. Therefore, to create a realistic driving simulator as you describe, you’ll need real automotive controls connected to your computer and the same sort of accuracy in software. Doing so would cost much more than buying an actual car to practice in.

okay…shame but I guess I will just have to read books and use my imagination.

Well there is Grand Theft Auto… and other driving games with traffic. Though they tend to encourage mayhem and violence, there is traffic which tends to obey the rules, and police who sometimes nail you if you break some basic rules. I don’t know of one that’s all that good for learning, though.
