Dr. Paul Farmer. Worked with him years ago and again recently in Haiti through Partners In Health. Amazingly enough, he’s actually a really nice guy—one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and by far THE nicest doctor I’ve worked with.

I just heard in today’s news how much Bill and Melinda Gates have done to save people all around the Earth who are dying of rare diseases, and how all the big pharmaceutical manufacturers have kicked in money and research to the effort. And it wasn’t so long ago I thought Microsoft was the Empire and Bill Gates was Emperor Palpatine. Getting to know him by his actions and not those of a corporation have made a world of difference.
