Relay for life fundraising ideas!

Asked by martinez00anita (272points) May 22nd, 2008 from iPhone

Relay for Life is June 20–21.
Our team is trying to build up donations to benefit Relay. I was wondering if you had any last minute ideas to raise money? Anything with hard labor, our office would probably never do… (no carwash) We have reps who pay for all of our food supplies, so money isn’t an issue. Any ideas? We’ve already sold burritos, ice cream, BBQ, hot chocolate &bread… Any other ideas?

Thanks, Anna.

You could always do something a bit more unusual. Where I work we’ve had people having their hair cut/head shaved for charity. Does anyone on the team have a mullet they’re willing to lose?

Used book sale, complete with bake sale, kid’s story, face painting, etc, hold it in a local school gym.

Auctions, auction off people (like a date with someone or local labor like plumbers, mechanics, etc), collect coupons for goods and services from local businesses to auction off, good old fashion cake auction, the list goes on and on

Work with local police to throw people in jail (local celebs, business people, etc) then they need to ‘make bail’ by calling all their friends, family, associates to collect donations until they reach a certain amount (usually $500 – $1000 depending)

I could keep going, but I will wait and see what other suggestions you get :0)

when i was in highschool I organized a Car Bash which went over very well—especially since it is so frustrating to walk for 24 hours straight.. haha

The local junk yard donated an ugly car that still had the good smash-y parts-windows, headlights, etc- and we charged people $5 for three hits with a sledge hammer, or I suppose you could do something like $25 for a full minute with it? maybe that is steep, i would opt for time rather than number of hits if I were going to give up money to smash something though.

Make sure they get safety equipment on and sign a waver of injury responsibility (lame, necessary)

and have fun, good luck! cleaning it up was kind of a hassle but totally worth it. we made over $500 and it was a smaller event

Oh, I forgot to mention that this was something that we did during the relay for life, not beforehand. It would be hard to get people to come to a car bash if they weren’t already a captive audience as they are at the relay
