Is this a good advertising idea?

Asked by mcbolden (264points) February 20th, 2011

So, my friend has bet me that I won’t rollerblade to class and I intend to win this bet. However, it has evolved into my decision to rollerblade to class on 3 different days in order to advertise for our Relay For Life event on campus in addition to the bet. I am hoping that this will be great publicity for the event. What do you think?

I would say rollerskating down the halls with a megaphone would be much, much better. It would attract more attention.

I think it’s a great idea. perfect.

I’m not sure what Relay For Life is, but it seems someone rollerblading is a common sight anymore that may not get no more attention than a car alarm blaring. Ever consider the old stand-bys like posters in the hallway walls or handing out leaflets? Of course, it would seem if rollerblading to class 3 times is good, than doing it 6 times would be twice as good.

Sounds like a great idea! I’ve never actually seen anybody rollerblade to class. In fact, I don’t see rollerblades much at all anymore where I live. How will you make it an advertisement, though? Obviously, you can’t just be rollerblading. You need to be shouting or carrying something or handing something out (or all three).

Wear a t-shirt announcing RELAY FOR LIFE, maybe on a bright green or other loud-colored shirt. Or even a cape! Dress like a super hero.

As @Uberwench said, this will work, but you need to take advantage of the situation. And be different each time, you don’t want people ignoring you by the third time.

@Uberwench and @zenvelo: I do plan to be wearing a large poster as well with the event’s information. But I’m not sure what else I could do on the second or third day differently the spice it up.

@12Oaks: Relay For Life is a basically a huge fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. It’s a great opportunity to make a difference and there are thousands throughout the country. You should check out www.relayforlife.org!

The problem I see it that, although it might be fun for you to rollerblad into class, after the first time, it is likely that the teacher will tell you not to do it again. It’s usually against school rules. Getting in trouble will not help your cause.

You’d be better off wearing a T-shirt and a funny hat to draw attention. Or you could arrange to have some type of delivery service bring pizza or donuts or a cake to the class on each of the 3 different days and the delivery person would make a quick blurb about the cause and then say Please enjoy these treats!

If it is against the rules it will draw even more attention. If you only get one shot at it, make it big!

@mcbolden Yeah, sorry. With all the charities and walks and flash mobs and guys on street intersections and sandwichboard wearers and door knockers all asking for a free handout it’s hard to keep up with one against the other.

hmmm…how about rollerblading with a tray of brownies or cupcakes?
