What do people get out of watching gory sexual films?(NSFW I suppose)

Asked by King_Pariah (11484points) February 29th, 2012

Just a while ago I noticed a channel on Youtube I subscribe to had a trailer up for Piranha 3DD and frankly, I find it sorta despicable. It may be me being over the top or part of my puritan conservative upbringing momentarily kicking in, but I really find it decadent and draw parallels to some of the things done in the amphitheaters of the Roman Empire. Yeah, I know, it’s not real, but people still are being entertained by gore, sex, and death (technically making it a snuffish film) intermingled into one play which is similar to some of the things done back in Rome. Is this just a natural pleasure of man?

And besides, what does one get out of DD’s getting eaten? These magnificent beautiful pair of globes (which are one of the few things that get me to even momentarily consider the existence of a higher being) being mauled and marred?

From my friend who would “totally watch that shit” (edited for spelling/grammar):

“Well, some people get turned on by it. Some just like the horror. Like… like/hate. The constant quest to find the next most awful thing you’ve ever seen. So when someone is like, OMG I saw a bug on my pizza and it was the grossest thing ever! you can be like, actually, there was this thing with the chainsaw and… Sometimes it’s funny – like you want to see how awful and mutilated things can get.

I don’t understand how people actually get off on it.”

@King_Pariah I like things that cross the bounds of decency and find creative ways to make me cringe. Preferably while making me laugh as well. I’m not sure this one would do it for me. I’m more of a Machete / Slither kinda girl.

None of this is even remotely “snuffish”. In snuff films the violence and death is real. There are no known cases of snuff films being produced for distribution, though some criminals do video their crimes.

Objectify much? I can’t really be too hard on you since the movie is clearly objectifying women. But you don’t have to completely overlook that violence to those titillating breasts is not just bad for your boner, but considerably worse for the cannon fodder. Respect the cannon fodder.

@fundevogel Do you mind if I ask, are you sexually turned on by these types of films (and if so, any idea why? No judgment, just curiosity).

No, it isn’t sexual for me. As for those that do find it sexual…there’s all kinds of kink. I’m really not qualified to speculate on why someone developed their particular fetish.

I have no idea, and would like to know as well. My reaction to sexual gore is usually something like this.

“Machete”

@fundevogel That, there somes bad acting.

Blackberry's avatar

@Jude The directors and producers do that on purpose.

@Jude It’s a tribute to grindhouse films.

Boners/lady boners.
That is all.

I thought the cleavage was for titillation, and the cleavers were for humor. Gore never affects me like it might in real life, but somehow boobs always have that special shine…

Is it just me, or after reading the last three of the OP does it seem like this guy is joking around?

People like gore, people like tits. Put them together to get a movie people like double time. I don’t think it’s a sexual thing. Just a thing people like.

The greater question might be “why do people like violent movies?”

But I don’t thnk the DD’s and the gore have quite the connection you’re inferring.

I like watching hotties on the big screen. I like watching action/violent movies. Why the heck NOT put them together?

Oh, and why DO people like watching violent movies? Because if they wanted to see REAL LIFE they wouldn’t go to the movies, and since all the outlandish crap you see in those films is NOT what you get in every day existence, it becomes entertainment.
