Do you know what the staff to client ratio should be in an adult program?

Asked by philosopher (9065points) April 6th, 2012

I looked on line and found this.

How can I get a clearer answer?
The Case Worker said, she would ask DDSO.
When my son began this program last July. The Director said, they had seven Consumers and six staff. Today the teacher said, they currently have seven consumers and three or four staff. This sounds much to low to me.

I don’t know what type of program this is. Is it a day program? A residential program?

It completely varies from a ratio of 3:1 to 10:1 depending on the severity of the patients/clients and the qualifications of the teacher/staff.

From your past questions, it sounds to me like you aren’t pleased with the program your son is in. If so, have you looked into other offerings in your locale? Have you let the program director in on your concerns?

So I don’t know what state you reside in, however, I did find the laws for New Jersey for adult day programs.

According to the Dept of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), to be funded by the DDD, a Transitional Day Program needs a ratio of 1:6 (staff to consumer). If it’s a Special Needs Program the typical staff-to-consumer ratio of 1:3
