Water is a chemical compound (H2O). I would have to put that ahead of DDT, any day.

It’s a bit hyperbolic to say that DDT has saved more lives than any other chemical compound, but it certainly has saved millions.

It’s also taken a huge toll on many bird species including the Bald eagle and California Condor. Pick you poison is fitting in this case, the classic double edged sword. Serve a few species damage others. Birds as well as fish and other amphibian populations are great barometers of the overall health of an ecosystem, DDT has not been a friend to many endangered bird species, causing ultra thin shells that prevent successful incubation.

Another vote for water, since air is a mix of different things.

I vote for a return to the garden where nature manages itself.
You may call me a dreamer, but I’m not the only one…..everyone sing along now

All of that Silent Spring crap has been proven a lie.

Too much water will kill you like too much of anything.

Has DDT saved more lives… : What?!

Water : Too much of anything will kill you, true. But how many people would survive without any water? That was your question wasn’t it?

@Rock2 What planet are you from?
It’s no secret that we’re teetering on the brink of self destruction, no lie there.
Looks like you’re fully entrenched in the illusion.

@Rock2 Are you kidding, clearly you have no understanding of what DDT does to organic forms of life. Maybe you are silicon based.

Ever heard of risk/reward.

The question is has DDT saved more lives?

XOIIO's avatar

@Rock2 If you are counting all forms of life, absolutely not. If you count only human life, then I suppose.

Coloma's avatar

I consider all forms of life to be as viable as human life. Because we are all manifestations of life and what we do to harm one form harms another. The interconnected web, and man is not automatically graced with top dog status, infact, we are lower than low IMO, believing we hold the monopoly and ultimate truth of everything. Bah humbug!

The average dog has more integrity in the tip of his tail than the average human.
