On a related note, my favorite is SHAT, Services Historiques de l’Armée de Terre (The French Army Historical Service). I have trouble keeping a straight face whenever I read that one.

EBIDA (Earnings Before Interest, Depreciation And Amortization)

When one of the senior VPs gave a speech during a holiday luncheon, he kept referring to EBIDA. I suspect that the vast majority of the audience had no idea what he was talking about. Based upon the whispered conversations giggles from the table near ours, I suspect that if alcohol had been served, they would have turned it into a drinking game…take a sip every time he said EBIDA.

If we wanna go military on it there are all kinds of crude acronymns. Some of the safer ones are:

- B end O ver H ere I t C omes A gain.

- F udged U p B eyond A ll R ecognition

- F ͏͏͏ ͏ ͏
I t L ets T ake A B reak.
͏
– And as @YARNLADY mentioned;
S ituation N ormal A ll F udged U p (That’s the version I hear most often)

The most unusual acronym I’ve seen in common usage (unfortunately not the least bit risque) is WYSIWYG, pronounced “whizzy-wig.” It stands for, “What you see is what you get” and relates to computer print graphics. I first heard the term around 1980.

“What’s that extra B for?”
“That’s a typo.”

PMS = Pantone Matching System

Link

Whenever I discuss this in my graphic design classes, I mention to my students that it’s an unfortunate acronym.

@cprevite PMS for Pantone Matching System predated PMS as an ailment of any sort by many years
